Message from the MD

The SMME sector is a key focus point for the national economy. This is especially true in our current global economic context, one that has placed massive strain on formal businesses across the world. As was articulated in last year’s report, SMMEs account for roughly half of the country’s economic activity and about 30% of South Africa’s GDP. There can be no doubting the centrality, then, of the sector to the national economy.

Established in terms of the Northern Province Development Corporation Act (Act No. 4 of 1995) and listed under schedule 3D of the Public Finance Management Act (Act No.1 of 1999, as amended by Act No. 29 of 1999), LimDev was recently refocused to drive increased SMME activity within the Province and to develop a sustainable SMME sector within Limpopo over the long term.
